HEAR OUR STORY

This video is featured on the homepage of our website, and we would love to tell you our story and find out how you can get involved with caring for our homeless!

Our Vision

A caring community where all homeless and less fortunate are provided with the basic necessity of warmth and the gift of hope.

Our Mission

Blanket Louisville is a non-profit organization whose mission is to warm the hearts and bodies of Louisville’s homeless and less fortunate through the collection and distribution of new and gently used blankets.

Our Story

Humble Beginnings

What started as a school project to teach the Fehder children and their classmates the importance of giving back, has grown from a small grass roots program into a national campaign to warm the bodies and hearts of America’s less fortunate and homeless. 20 years ago, Blanket Louisville collected about 300 blankets with notes from the students attached to each, as the blankets were being distributed on Valentine’s Day to a local homeless shelter. Thus, the slogan of Warming Bodies and Warming Hearts!

It was an incredible success.

Steve and Kathy Fehder recognized the power of the program with a very small school and envisioned what could be if more schools, churches, businesses and organizations got involved. The next year 1,000 blankets were collected, 2,000 the next, then 3,000 and 4,000 and it kept growing. 20 years later, with the help of friends, family, hundreds of volunteers and collection partners, and thousands of generous donors, Blanket Louisville has collected and distributed 140,000 blankets to the homeless and less fortunate in the Louisville region, central Kentucky and Appalachia. Blankets have also been distributed to disaster victims in Eastern and Western Kentucky and to area charities assisting refugees.

From this ministry, Blanket USA was born in 2022 to serve the needs of the homeless population nationwide.
